Erik is a committed director with a unique vision and a powerful voice. Ever since I met him back in BADA, he’d talk about his experiences directing shows. His Macbeth was always being brought up. He told me stories about this production with such nostalgia and passion that I almost felt like it was happening in front of my eyes! He also shared some funny and unconventional ways they came up with to solve problems, and how he learned to put shows together.

One day last summer, I sat with him and Amanda and watched with admiration as he gave acting notes to Amanda while she was performing a monologue. Every note he gave was powerful and effective. Clare is a truly remarkable person. She is a gifted actress, a unique dancer, a knowledgeable filmmaker, and an amazing writer. I’ve had the pleasure of knowing her for almost six years now. Six years! We met at the beginning of the 7th grade at PPAS, when I just moved back to New York from San Francisco. She greeted me on my first day of school and readily showed around. The moment I met her, it became clear that she was confident and had a head on her shoulders. These qualities are also easy to see when she’s acting. That first year when we met, everyone in our class was given an assignment to write a monologue and perform it in front of the class. To this day, I still remember the talent she emulated when performing her monologue. Not to mention that the level of her writing well surpassed any expectations for that age. She discusses that monologue in the video, so I don’t want to give too much away, but I can testify that Clare is not only an incredible artist with a vision, but also a very knowledgeable individual with a broadest expertise on a multitude of topics. Amanda Whiteley is an incredible photographer. I met her a year ago in England – where we were both studying acting – and it was then that I began to see just how uniquely talented she was not only as an actress but also as photographic storyteller.

It rained quite often and one day, as we were walking down the street, she suddenly kneeled next to a puddle to take a quick shot. I was utterly confused at first, then I saw the picture she took. That puddle was next to an architectural beauty which made an amazing reflection in the water at the right angle. Amanda saw all this while we were talking and took this as an opportunity to create a vibrant masterpiece. She says that she loves finding the extraordinary in plain objects that most people would normally overlook, I must say, she succeeded. Watch the video to learn more!
